A Recap of CASEL SEL Exchange 2024 in Chicago
Class Catalyst attended this year’s CASEL SEL Exchange Conference. If you didn’t have a chance to attend, here’s some of the highlights from our time there.
Our panel discussion, Beyond Borders & Backpacks: Building Bridges for Newcomer SEL, delved into the crucial topic of adult well-being and the significance of fostering a welcoming and supportive environment for newcomers within the SEL community. The panelists shared insightful experiences and perspectives on how to create inclusive spaces that prioritize the mental health and emotional needs of both school staff and new students coming in. This engaging conversation highlighted the importance of empathy, active listening, and open communication in building strong and resilient communities.

Our team had a fantastic time connecting with attendees at our booth at the vendor exhibit. We were thrilled to meet so many passionate individuals who share our enthusiasm for SEL work. It was a pleasure to engage in stimulating conversations and learn about the innovative ways people are implementing SEL strategies. Being in Chicago, we had to add some fun to the experience with a game of bags, offering exciting prizes to lucky winners.
To wrap up an exciting day on Wednesday, we gathered for pizza at a Chicago staple, Pizano’s Pizza. This provided a relaxed setting for our panelists to interact with attendees on a more personal level. These conversations allowed for deeper discussions on SEL strategies, challenges faced by schools nationwide, and the essential role of support systems in fostering positive learning environments, not just for students, but staff as well.
